Professional
Development Program (PDP)
The Professional Development Program (PDP) is
designed to assist you in focusing your review and study
efforts on your areas of weakness defined in terms of the
NFPA Professional Qualification Standards. PTS
believes that it is much better to strive for meeting a
nationally accepted standard than to focus on the narrow
requirements of some instructional materials and text
references. Although we have technical references
cited for each of our test-item banks, meeting the standard
is the primary goal. The PDP is delivered to you in
three distinct phases. Each phase has been designed
and developed to focus your study and preparation on areas
of greatest weakness. The phases are as follows:
Phase I
The initial test designed for this phase includes 150
test-items that cover every part of the
NFPA Standard.
Once you have been registered, accepted into the program and
paid your necessary fees, you will receive an identification
number and password to access your first test. We
suggest that you do not study for this test or perform any
actions such as looking up the answers while taking the
initial test. Part of the PDP design is to
survey your present level of knowledge and to build upon it
for subsequent tests and self-directed study activities.
You will receive a feedback report for all test-items that
you missed on the initial test. We will ask you to do
certain things with this feedback report. Once you
complete the requirements and fax them to us you will be
ready to move to Phase II.
Phase II
A new test will be generated for use in this phase of the
PDP. This test will include a 100-item test with up to
25% overlap of the first test and additional questions at a
more difficult level. We suggest that you study the
reference materials in which you scored lowest. The
second test should be completed in the same manner as the
first. You should complete the feedback report
using the same procedures furnished to you by Performance
Training Systems, Inc. Pay particular attention to
those areas of the reference materials where you continue to
score lowest. It is important at this point to read
the materials containing the correct response in context.
This technique will help you master the material and retain
knowledge.
Phase III
The final test in this phase will contain up to 25% overlap
of the first two tests and will include additional test
items from areas of greatest weakness. The process for
study, lookup, and review or missed questions is the same as
for the previous phases. When this work is complete,
you must return the final feedback report in order to
receive your Certificate of Completion and your written
Guarantee of Success.
